Daniel’s paintings show nature in her wildness; these are not chocolate box images. Looking at these paintings gives the viewer the same sense of soul recharging, that you experience when you are sat by a river or up high on a tor. His paintings capture the intangible otherness and unruliness of the moors, carved river valleys and ancient woodlands in the lasting medium of oil paint. They focus on an idea, sometimes as simple as the excitement of a single colour or revelry in the delicateness of a flower. This wilderness is balanced and complemented by his studio work. Though painted in a more civilised environment, the still life work produces exciting results with intense visual flavours. It is the combination of the choice of object and the way in which they are looked at, by both the artist and the audience, which makes them come alive. The simple objects breathe character, they radiate light and celebrate colour.
