Cradling Loss’ Flowers die, birds fall to earth, the work forms; the making of these images is a cradling of loss. They are moments of tension created by the impossibility of description, the incompleteness of experience, the wish for resolution. Living and dead flowers are each uniquely vulnerable; touch can bruise one and crumble the other without intention. The use of line in relation to the image creates for me a sense of holding the breath, of a moment of possibility suspended in the space that defines the relationship. Implicit in what I do is the notion that the eye is tactile –the eye feels across a tangible emptiness; there is always distance. Vision anticipates that which touch confirms. In the making, the physicality of paint, elegance of line, offer tactile comfort.
