Stick or Twist, Castlefield Gallery, Manchester
This short-run exhibition is Castlefield Gallery’s first ‘Launchpad’ event of the year. Curated by Manchester-based artist Kieran Leach, the playful title refers to the artists taking part being given the option to stick with an artwork chosen by Leach, or twist and include something else. Artists include Leach himself along with: Phoebe Baines, Joel Chan, Aaron Clixby, Daisy Forster, Richard Hughes, Richie Moment, Rebecca Moss, and Jeremy Willett.

The Edge of Things, CCA, Derry
Throughout February and March, Derry’s CCA is staging a series of one-day exhibitions. These include Charlie McConaghy’s ‘The object of time’, which features four eclectic objects – drawn from his vast personal collection – that have lost their significance or purpose over time. Forthcoming events include Colin Priest: ‘Dopey Dick is 40!’; Brown&Brí: ‘A Riveder le Stelle’; and Basic Space: ‘The Present Is Not Enough, Part 1’.

Disappearance At Sea – Mare Nostrum, BALTIC, Gateshead
Hosted in collaboration with Amnesty International, this timely show draws attention to the journeys taken by migrants and refugees in order to cross the Mediterranean Sea. The exhibition includes several new commissions and a broad range of artworks by artists from Syria, Greece, Serbia, Denmark, Kenya and the UK, who have explored ways of addressing this humanitarian disaster.

Public View, Bluecoat, Liverpool
This show is the first exhibition in a 300-day programme celebrating the tercentenary of Bluecoat, the UK’s oldest arts centre. It features over 100 artists who have previously shown at the venue, including a series of photographs from recent Artes Mundi 7 winner John Akomfrah. Also on show is Jeremy Deller’s print History of the World, which resulted from his Acid Brass project, commissioned by Bluecoat in 1997.

Tim Noble And Sue Webster, Blain/Southern, London
An exhibition of sculptural work featuring pairs of giant self-portraits sculpted in twisted bronze. The works explore the nature of sexual difference – with the show titled ‘Sticks With Dicks And Slits’ what else would you expect? Engaging in basic bodily functions is a recurring motif for the artists – one pair features nudes of Noble urinating and Webster lactating.
