40 a-n members have been awarded bursaries to access either a series of coaching sessions with an accredited coach, or mentoring from one of five visual arts mentors.
The a-n Mentoring 2018 programme offers successful applicants access to four fully subsidised one-hour mentoring sessions with one of five visual arts mentors: Bill Campbell, Rosalind Davis, Lucy Day, Amanprit Sandhu and Emilia Telese.
The 25 a-n members awarded mentoring bursaries are: Kelly Best, Alison Carr, Alice Chandler, Youngsook Choi, Luce Choules, Sarah Dixon, Tom Emery, Rita Evans, Katrin Hanusch, Jessica Harby, Frances Heap, Rachel Hendry, Leona Jones, Mani Kambo, Sophie Mahon, Alice May Williams, Hollie Miller, Renata Minoldo, Suzanne O’Haire, Laura Onions, Janet Sainsbury, Tamara Stoll, Zoe R Watson, Sian Williams, Sanae Yamada.
These sessions will be undertaken remotely via phone or video calling over a 12-month period from September 2018.
Speaking about the selection process, selector and mentor Lucy Day said reading the applications was a “great pleasure” and that she is looking forward to meeting her new mentees.
She added: “As a curator it is rare to have the opportunity to see a diverse range of practices from across the country, from works covering activist protest through to abstraction in painting and sculpture. There were several stand out applications where artists gave articulate, considered answers with a high degree of self-awareness, and having identified the barriers they faced.”
A further 15 a-n members have been awarded bursaries for the a-n Coaching 2018 programme. This offers recipients three fully subsidised one-hour coaching sessions over a three to six month period, starting from September 2018, with sessions also taking place remotely either by phone or video calling.
The a-n members are: Iain Andrews, Camille Aubry, Ellie Barrett, Ellen Bell, Sovay Berriman, Sonia Boué, Eleanor Duffin, Vickie Fear, Ria Hartley, Anna Horton, Holly Maries, Isabelle Moore, Annabel Other, Antonio Roberts, and Natasha Russell.
Coaches for the sessions are Helene Roberts, Holly Davey, Jo Clements, Tess Waite and Anna Hart. They have been accredited by Relational Dynamics 1st through a-n’s Visual Arts Coaching Course which has trained 34 Artist and Arts Organiser members over the past two years.
