Celebrating its tenth anniversary, this year’s York Open Studios event has doubled in size. A record number of 119 artists will open their studios over two weekends in April, and talks, workshops and exhibitions are taking place at venues right across the city. Visitors have the chance to discover the passion which drives some of the UK’s most respected contemporary craftspeople, such as ceramicists Jane Blackman, Peter Humpherson and Ruth King, stained glass artist Ann Sotheran, furniture maker Wilf Williams and Richard Whitelegg, an award winning architectural blacksmith who is also a jeweller. A special programme of talks, workshops and events will offer a unique behind- the-scenes insight into York’s creative community. These include a chance to find out more about York Glaziers Trust, the oldest and largest specialist stained glass conservation studio in Britain. York Open Studios is a perfect opportunity to discover creative talent with the added enjoyment of a wander around the mediaeval streets of York. Visitors can plan their route with the help of a free event guide and map, also available online from
