I have recently attended a session organised by Emerge http://www.emergelondon.org.uk/events/item/28 – Educating the Educators: Engaging with Gallery Education.
The session was run by Emma Hart and Leanne Turvey who were joined by Jane Sillis from engage. The session predominantly focused on gallery education but touched on issues present in socially engaged practice. What is the difference between gallery education and socially engaged practice to start with.
Emma Hart explored these questions using her own practice as an example. Emma approaches work with galleries as any other art work/project she is involved in and she sees working with education as a space to continue her ongoing practice. The questions of repetition, ‘workshopping’, tensions between gallery-artist-school were explored among many others.
