Time rules the modern world and our lives. Practically every room in an average house contains at least one clock, whether as part of the cooker, or DVD player or central heating system. Sue’s fascination lies not with these but with clocks that have become dysfunctional, clocks that were once operated by clockwork, that had to be wound up every eight hours or so and required a conscious effort to keep on time. These clocks have become tiny theatres in which to place a scenario, a moment caught in time, whilst maintaining their associations with their original context, as a comforting presence on a mantel piece in a home or on a wall in the workplace, now instead of telling the time, each have a different story to communicate. Each piece is a small comment or observation of the world and our surroundings, be it humorous or tragic, analytical or earnest. The work is first and foremost concerned with the inherent history in a found object, revolving around the notion of collecting and display, of Cabinets of Curiosities and Wonder Rooms. Free entry and free parking. The private view is taking place on Friday 13th. May, 6 – 8pm. All welcome.
