Cole Gonzalez is pleased to announce ‘So Glad You Made It’ a solo exhibition by artist Matt Day.The exhibition consists of a series of traditional and non traditional prints. The work presented is influenced by architecture and cartoons, Modernist design ‘classics’ and an irreverent approach to language. A man, bespectacled, with mushrooms on his face: a portrait interrupted? A blueprint or, more precisely a revised Computer Aided Design of a Modernist building that resembles an iconic cartoon silhouette. An item of furniture, a modest Alvar Aalto stool with various modifications/additions – a stool on a stool. A formal abstraction ruled by the ‘golden mean’ somewhat ominously entitled‘Golden Chicken Supreme’.Day has assumed the role of urban alchemist: taking the base materials of the city and transforming them with the quip. This linguistic détournement is central to Day’s practice: a playful wandering through the geographical, digital and mental spaces we inhabit.Matt Day is an artist who lives and works in London. He graduated in Fine Art and Contemporary Critical Theory from Goldsmiths College.
