MEMORY B(L)ANKS at Axis Arts Centre.The relationships between memory and identity, art and documentation are explored in a new exhibition taking place in Cheshire this week.Curated by Emma Thackham, MEMORY B(L)ANKS features the work of 25 artists whose creations in film, installation, live art, sculpture and sound focuses on the impact of memory within issues of identity.The exhibition takes place in the Open Space gallery at the Axis Arts Centre in Crewe Exhibition highlights include:Milos and Slavica Rancovich, from Norway, who are presenting collaborative drawings that ‘remember’ the missing parts of images generated at random from the internetOHMMM, (Orchestra of Home Made Musical Machines) who are presenting a live performance with projected visuals Ohmmm-Ohmmm.blogspot.com , Adela Jones, who presents artifacts from Sweeten My Life, an homage to the humble honey bee, Estelle Wooley, whose tiny sculptures mix the grotesque with the absurd in examination of childhood superstitions. Lauren Cooley, Food Choreographer from Arty Farty Cooking, who is visiting the residents of Heath View in Congleton with gift boxes of wartime ration recipes such as banana meatloaf. Sophie Bower whose Stories of Memory is a Mobile Museum that archives car booter’s tales of childhood adventures with objects and sound.Arty Farty Cooking will also be catering the opening reception with Nostalgic nibbles which takes place at Thursday, June 9, from 7pm.
