Throughout July The Plough Gallery is being taken over by an exhibition of near life size figurative constructions in stainless steel by local artist, Bob Waters. Also on show will be his constructed maquettes and some of the recent ‘widescreen’ series of colourful abstract paintings. Bob studied architecture briefly at Bristol University before changing courses to 3D design at Brighton College of Art, with a B.A. in 1978.The figurative work began in the mid-1990’s, following several cycling trips to the Andean regions of South America, and was initially based on sculptures of heads and faces seen at different places and times. He works with industrial scrap metal, experimenting and developing different techniques and working to the limits of what can be achieved through cold bending, which gives a limited but very direct characterization, expressed through body language and gesture.
