Tenderpixel is pleased to present Its In There Somewhere, a new exhibition featuring the work of Justin Gainan and Emma Hunt. Interrogating the synchronicity between photography and sculpture both artists acknowledge the overlap and tension between the observation of objects and the objects themselves. By considering the differences between the indexical capacity of photography and the experiential tendency of sculpture, Gainan and Hunt explore the qualities, nuances and trajectory of their mediums through the viewpoint of the other. The merging of these opposing perceptual and subsequently conceptual approaches result in a de-territorialisation leading the viewer in new and critical conceptual directions.’Its In There Somehere’ creates a dialectical tension between the work of Emma Hunt and Justin Gainan, as well as, amongst contemporaneous modes of artistic production. Using her photography-based practice, Emma Hunt provokes the referential qualities of photography with a new body of work on reproduction and the process of making copies. Implementing cumbersome physical materials, Justin Gainan’s sculptural work for Tenderpixel articulates performative and unsolicited motivations through constructing concreteness. Each practice draws attention to a visual duality where ‘things’ become the material for both conceptual content and construction in the physical space.
