‘I use traditional techniques and invented frameworks to explore strength and delicacy in sculpture. Time honoured modes of making and display are gently disrupted: large maquettes are displayed as finished works.’ Susan Forsyth is inspired by the relationship between form and space and works to challenge public perception through her large scale geometric forms of intersecting planes. This exhibition brings together two distinct works that explore and examine the concept of play and interaction. Using this idea of simple planes of geometric forms, Jacob’s Ladder II is an eight metre high site specific steel work glided in gold leaf that leans quietly against the façade of the Royal British Society of Sculptors building whilst maintaing an engaging presence. Wiff-Waff VI is a large indoor work where visitors can play ping-pong on an oversize gilded table. Players are encouraged to invent the game as they go along and to set up a personal dialogue with the work. JACOB’S LADDER II will be exhibited until 14 September and WIFF-WAFF VI will be exhibited until 23 March 2012.
