Versus: “against (used especially to indicate an action brought by one party against another…” This world is a competition; to get anywhere you have to compete. For this exhibition, three artists, Nick Simpson, Ian Manicom and Tom Cretney, have been given an identical brief by an external source. The pieces in this show are their personal reactions to the brief. Neither of the artists has discussed their work with the rest of the group, they are competing rather than collaborating. Since graduating from Lincoln University in 2009, the three artists have set up base here in the city. As very good friends the competitive nature to this project is increased as each artist is trying to be the best, to beat their friends, to win.
