Fine art photographer Sarah Crew and painter Kymberly O’Carroll-Fitzpatrick bring their unique styles together to explore current attitudes towards modern-day beauty juxtaposed with the notion of the “pearls of wisdom”.A humorous thread runs throughout the exhibition, illuminating their frank and playful exploration of topical subjects, which results in a collaborative piece titled “Juxtapose”.Crew’s photography discusses the passing of time and literal notions of the term “pearls of wisdom” bringing an alternative response of ways to produce economic stability. These pearls are used by the cockerel as he assumes they contain the answers, whilst her other character ensures the beauty of pearls is always upheld whist she keeps a watchful eye on the clock.Where Crew takes a more symbolic approach to pearls in her images, O’Carroll-Fitzpatrick takes a more literal one. Her beautiful damsels draped in pearls and frozen in dramatic poses have a comical quality to them. Oozing with sex appeal, her pop art inspired images engage with and entertain the viewer.Crew has a relish for contemporary story telling, and demonstrates an ability to create work which comments on current situations with a thoughtfulness and delicacy, displayed through her photographic talents. O’Carroll-Fitzpatrick once again illustrates her light-hearted approach to creating artwork which reflects the same attitude. The private view will be on Thursday 2nd August, 6pm until late.
