“Painting allows me to reflect and reinvent the things I see, not to imitate reality but to conceive and create a new reality as a painting” Jane Sullivan’s paintings are produced through observation of the real world which is reduced and simplified into geometric forms. Believing colours of equal luminance are read as joyful, Sullivan uses bright high key colours in an arbitrary way to express herself more forcibly. Her imagination and the paint transform & dictate the overall outcome. Using this implementation of a set of self imposed rules and objectives she uses the physical immediacy of the flat geometric form, to convey an abstract reality out of the ordinary and every day.
