My work, Parallels and Meridians – Beyond the Boundaries, is on show in the window of the main Maritime Mix offices as part of the cultural Olympiad. This work is created from a GPS recording of a walk I took on Portland. Using a set of parameters I have devised my longitude and latitude data is turned into a series of ever changing lines. With reference to Paul Klee’s “take a line for a walk”, I utilise GPS recorded walks to capture the landscape scientifically and then present this captured data in new ways. This work references the tradition of landscape painting and drawing, and is rendered as a moving image. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKzYb1_546QAs part of this commission I have also created an app called ambler. This app aims to capture the ephemeral act of wandering itself – in fleeting scenes unfolding and then disappearing before they have begun to fully form and extends drawing with pencil into the use of new technology and specifically that of scientific instruments such as GPS recorders, to challenge the assumptions of what drawing is or might be. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=processing.test.ambler
