Old abandoned buildings, vehicles, sometimes vandalised or burnt out amidst woods and forests are some of the subject matter addressed in Matthew Spencer’s disenchanted landscapes. One of eleven artists in Marburae Art Gallery’s latest visual arts exhibition #Portfolio, Matthew’s work is created with hundreds of hours of painstakingly, hand-carving intricate landscapes using MDF, creating timeless masterpieces without even a lick of paint! Winner of the NEO Studio Prize 2012, Matthew Spencer is joined by Canadian born artist, Ian Kirkpatrick who secured a project grant from the Canada Council for the Arts to create work for #Portfolio. Ian’s work, Fortune favours the brave transforms from rectangular cardboard boxes into bright, eye-catching sculptural forms, based on the intersection between contemporary sculpture and packaging design and in the case of Fortune favours the brave, a tank! To catch a glimpse of multi award winning artworks by 11 inspiring, national and international artists visit #Portfolio at Marburae Gallery on Athey Street, Macclesfield. The #Portfolio exhibition open evening will take place at 7.00pm – 9.30pm on 22nd November 2012. The exhibition will run from 23rd November until 22nd December 2012.
