RIBBON MACHINE is a collective of 6 artists mainly working with photography. This exhibition at Doomed Gallery on the busy market street of Ridley Road in Dalston is their 2nd show together. This show, part of East London’s Photomonth, is being used to experiment with, not just what they show – but also how they show it. Emma Jane Spain is using video and large-scale projection, Diane Bielik has created a small self published book the first of a what will be a set of three publications, Elisa Noguera is exploring ideas of the photograph as object using experimental methods of presentation and placement in the gallery space, Monica Takvam uses touch and sound together with her portraits of blind people to explore perception and sight, Ella Bryant uses oversized imagery sometimes working with the low tech photocopy on paper and acetate and other times using carefully produced darkroom prints and Fanny Janssen is looking at repetition.Together they hope this exhibition will answer a few questions and no doubt pose a few more.
