KEEPING UP/CATCHING UP
The last few weeks have been a bit hectic. The artists’ network which I run has been busy as we’ve had two events in the last month plus we’re starting a new buddying scheme so there has been a lot to think about and organise.
As well as that I put on an exhibition in my home, Curiouser and Curiouser, which was open over two weekends as part of Eastbourne Festival. I made a conscious decision some months ago that I wouldn’t get involved in any big new events or exhibitions for a while, so that I can completely focus on putting in the time I need for reading and research for my new project. However, I decided that the Open House format would be a good opportunity to show some work in progress, get a response to some of my early research questions, and take stock of past work made over several years.
I opened four rooms in my house with a mix of past and present work and in my studio in the garden I displayed my work books, reference materials and a mind-map of starting points for the new project. It was a great process, not only providing the chance to chat to many interesting visitors, but also demonstrating to me a reassuring strand of continuity in my work while confirming that it’s time to move on to new ways of thinking and working.
