A small but perfectly formed exhibition Jill Smith's collection of photography is a bold and contemporary comparison between interior and exterior and the character we create in our surroundings inside and out.
The exhibition appropriately entitled ‘Outside in,' cleverly shows the way we use the spaces created by architecture to live and work. These small but bold prints in cold grey and blue hues capture the organisation, formulaic and often predictable approach we have to our inside space, a window looking out allows the viewer to step back and see both spaces in one image, emphasising the tension between the regularity of the spaces and clear boundaries we create in them.
The compositions seems natural from your own experience of similar spaces but calculated to show a more dramatic comparison, the concept is clear and the artists fascination shows.
Mosedale Gillatt Architects host this exhibition in the Ouseburn's Northern Print Studios, a recent project of MGA it seems a fitting location for them to celebrate ten years with this exhibition, showcasing artists that have been involved in their projects.
