From over 3,000 submitted works, the judging panel for the ‘John Moores Painting Prize 2012’ has narrowed the field to sixty-two.

Among the works selected is the intriguingly titled Proposal for the Jury of the John Moores Painting Prize 2012 by Peter Liversidge. The shortlist also includes works by Andrew Cranston and Henny Acloque – see below for a link to the full list of selected artists.

This year’s judging panel is Fiona Banner (artist), Iwona Blazwick (director of Whitechapel Gallery), Angela de la Cruz (artist), George Shaw (artist) and Alan Yentob (creative director of the BBC). The competition is open to all UK-based artists working with paint and works are viewed anonymously by the judges.

The winner of the £25,000 first prize will be announced at an opening ceremony on 14 September, when four runner-up prizes of £2,500 will also be presented. This year the Visitors’ Choice prize is £2012.

‘John Moores Painting Prize 2012’ is at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, 15 September 2012 – 6 January 2013. The exhibition forms a major part of the Liverpool Biennial.
