London-based sculptor Owen Bullett is the winner of the 2012 ING Prize for his sculpture ‘Divided Self IV’, featured in this year’s ING Discerning Eye exhibition. He will receive a prize of £5000. The £1000 ING Staff Purchase Prize was awarded to Betty Fraser Myerscough for her machine embroidered print, ‘The Barbican’.
The Discerning Eye Founder’s Prize, worth £2500, went to Ray Richardson for his oil paintings ‘Buttercup’ and ‘Ferg Kelly’.
The annual ING Discerning Eye exhibition is selected by two artists, two collectors and two critics. This year’s selectors are artists Albert Irvin RA and Chantal Joffe; collectors Doris Lockhart Saatchi and Gerald Walker; and critics Charles Darwent (The Independent) and Skye Sherwin (The Guardian).
The show includes over 190 artists and features prints, painting, drawing, sculpture and photography. The Discerning Eye is an educational charity established in 1990. It aims to encourage an understanding and appreciation of the visual arts.
The exhibition continues until 25 November at The Mall Galleries, London SW1, 10am-5pm daily. Admission is free.
