neo:gallery has announced the launch of the neo:artprize2013 following its successful inaugural year. The award is designed to offer a showcase for contemporary visual artists as well as cash prizes of £2,000, £500 worth of vouchers, 12 months neo:associate membership and a solo show at the Bolton-based gallery.
The open submission competition is juried by an independent panel including Laurie Peake, Programme Director for the Liverpool Biennial; Paul Stolper, Director of Paul Stolper Gallery, London and Stolper + Friends in Oslo; Mike Chavez-Dawson, artist and curator based at Rogue Artists Studios Manchester; and artist Iain Andrews, winner of the 2010 Marmite Prize for Painting.
The 2012 neo:artprize was won by Ana Rosa Hopkins for her installation made from broken glass that the artist collected after a chaotic episode of rioting in Manchester streets during August 2011. The resulting salad bowls contain a potent memory of the chaos from these events whilst outwardly displaying forms of beauty and delicate craftsmanship.
This year’s exhibition will take place in Bolton from 13 June until 28 July.
