Since it was launched in 2009, over 1,000 artists have benefited from AIRTIME, described by event facilitator Ed Adam as “like speed dating for artists!”
Providing information and tips from artists, arts organisations and other experts on professional matters including insurance, promotion and self-employment, the events are also an opportunity to network and meet like-minded artists.
“AIRTIME enables artists to be proactive participants, to create their own networks, voice their aspirations and share their experiences,” explains Adam. “It’s a free event that relies upon a culture of sharing between artists, curators, and local authorities – a lot is packed into the two-hour session.”
Arts organisations from across the UK have become AIRTIME partners, including Bristol’s Spike Island, Embrace Arts in Leicester, Swansea-based Glynn Vivian, Whitstable Biennale, Leeds’ East Street Arts, Cambridge-based Aid and Abet, Spacex in Exeter, and SPACE Studios in London.
Other regular contributors to AIRTIME events include Hencilla Canworth Insurance Brokers, artists and experts including a-n+AIR, and representatives from series partners DACS (Design and Artists Copyright Society) and Engage (gallery education).
Artist Anna Cottage, who attended a recent event at Temporary Art Project in Southend, comments: “I thoroughly enjoyed the session, particularly the opportunity to discuss Payback with DACS. It was great to network with other local artists and have access to such vital information.”
Artist Steve Joyce adds: “The session on social media and online promotion was packed with info. I wish it could have gone on longer!”
Upcoming events include Berwick (1 May), Blyth (16 May) and Folkestone (5 June). To book your place simply email [email protected]
