The call for entries for the John Moores Painting Prize 2014 is now open. With the panel of four judges for this sought after award announced as the online registration process goes live.
Any painter over the age of 18 can submit work to be considered by Turner Prize contender Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, art historian and White Cube’s Director of Exhibitions Tim Marlow, London-based painter Chantal Joffe and Beijing-based artist Zeng Fanzhi.
As well as selecting the highly regarded exhibition that takes place at Liverpool’s Walker Art Gallery, the jurors will announce their twenty-eighth modern master who will receive the £25,000 first prize. Past winners have included David Hockney, Sir Peter Blake, Peter Doig, Keith Coventry and Sarah Pickstone.
Four runner-up prizes of £2,500 will also be awarded and to mark the year of the exhibition there will also be a Visitor’s Choice award of £2014.
“The John Moores Painting Prize is a national institution of international significance with an illustrious but still rather under-rated history. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to survey the state of contemporary painting,” says Tim Marlow.
For the 56th year of this award, the final exhibition has been moved forward from the Autumn to Summer 2014 to coincide with Liverpool Biennial.
