David Batchelor: Flatlands, Spike Island, Bristol
Although David Batchelor is best known for his vividly-coloured sculptural installations of illuminated lightboxes, industrial dollies and other found objects, his work is rooted in 2D, particularly drawing. This exhibition presents drawings and paintings created over the last two decades, including the most recent October series.

SIGNS AND MESSAGES II, Kate MacGarry, London
This show is the second incarnation of a group exhibition held at the Kate MacGarry gallery in 2007, titled Signs and Messages from Modern Life. The show unites artists whose works use typography or utilise other universal symbols, and features Fiona Banner, Alistair Frost, Marc Hundley, Neil Rumming, Stephen Willats and Kay Rosen.

Pop Art to Brit Art: Modern Masters from the David Ross collection, Lakeside Arts Centre, Nottingham
David Ross is perhaps the best known as the co-founder of The Carphone Warehouse, but he is also an avid collector of Pop Art. This exhibition draws from his collection and features David Hockney, Peter Blake, Richard Hamilton and Patrick Caulfield and more recent works by YBAs Damien Hirst, Marc Quinn and Gavin Turk.

Llareggub: Peter Blake illustrates Dylan Thomas’ Under Milk Wood, National Museum Cardiff
Sir Peter Blake presents his illustrations of Dylan Thomas’ Under Milk Wood (1953) – the culmination of a 25-year project. The show includes portraits of each of the characters in the cast, watercolours of the dream sequences and collages and paintings of scenes and locations in the fictional village of Llareggub.

Body Language, Saatchi Gallery, London
The latest exhibition at Charles Saatchi’s gallery space is an examination of the human form by 19 international artists. The show features Denis Tarasov’s photographs of tombstones, Makiko Kudo’s manga style paintings and Nicole Eisenman’s depictions of characters from different eras of art history.
