The company’s latest Annual Report once again demonstrates a-n’s commitment to its mission ‘to support and stimulate contemporary visual arts practice and affirm the value of artists in society’. It shows where a-n’s income comes from and how much is returned directly to artists.

a-n’s Director, Susan Jones, commented: “During 2012-2013, we have returned almost £316,000 to artists through fees, employment and commissions and as professional development bursaries. The report for 2004-2005 shows this sum as only £220,000. By systematically collecting this data, we’ve ensured the amount has grown in parallel with our overall ambitions.

“We urge other funded arts organisations to follow our lead. By publicly stating as part of their performance indicators and accountability reporting how much in terms of cash they provide to practitioners, they clearly demonstrate the value of artists within the visual arts ecology.”
