Film London has invited nominations for the 2014 Jarman Award, the annual prize for UK artist filmmakers inspired by the late Derek Jarman. The award recognises ‘risk-taking work’ that ‘resists boundaries and conventional definition’.
Artists put forward by commissioners, artists, cinema programmers and gallery curators will be in the running to win £10,000 prize money plus a short film commission for Channel 4’s Random Acts.
Adrian Wootton is Chief Executive of Film London and the British Film Commission: “Rewarding innovation in moving image art encourages further experimentation and diversity, making this award an important part of the UK’s cultural landscape.”
The winner of the 2013 Jarman Award was John Smith, and shortlisted artists in previous years have included Turner Prize winners Laure Prouvost and Elizabeth Price.
This year’s winner will be announced at a special event in the autumn, following a national tour of work from the shortlisted artists.
