May 2009 at Cuckoo Farm Studios: artist Lisa Temple-Cox will be in residence in the Benham Gallery. During this residency Lisa intends to develop and build an installation which includes reference to her old primary school in Malaysia (a former colonial hotel built on the top of Penang hill), recently discovered recordings of the voice of her late father, and new work begun during a short residency in the hothouse of Writtle College. An experiment in auto-ethnography and the 'lieu de memoire', she hopes to use a mixture of bought and found materials, phototransfer, slides and video projection to create an installation which is simultaneously a monument, an event, and an expression of 'coming-into-being'. Although the gallery will not be open for the duration of the residency, the artist will be holding a drop-in session on Sun 17th May, where visitors can talk to her about her work, see the work in progress, and perhaps take part. The exhibition will then take place on the weekend of 30th/31st May. See website for opening times and contact information.
