The winner of the seventh annual Liverpool Art Prize, chosen from a shortlist of three artists, is Tabitha Jussa.
The result was announced last night at an awards ceremony at Metal, Liverpool, where an exhibition of work by the shortlisted artists continues until Saturday. The winner receives £2000 and an invitation to present a show at the Bluecoat Gallery, Liverpool, in 2015.
Jussa, who was also voted winner of the People’s Choice Award, works with photography and has a particular interest in the relationship between people and place. This has led her to focus on social housing, and her work for the Liverpool Art Prize exhibition looks at housing in Liverpool and the impact its design and use has had on people and the city.
This year’s selectors and prize judges are: Manchester-based artist and lecturer Pavel Büchler; artistic director of Tate Liverpool, Francesco Manacorda; and new media artist and associate curator at Metal, Simon Poulter.
The other shortlisted artists for the 2014 prize are sculptor Brigitte Jurack and painter Jason Thompson.
