Metal presents a shared tuning in event, using a combination of car stereos and portable radios to receive a hyper-local FM radio transmission from Chauffeurs Cottage, in Peterborough on August 31, 2014.
To take part, bring your portable radio or car stereo systems to St Peters Road and tune in to 103.1 FM from 4pm or come and listen without your own equipment. If you can’t make it to the event you can listen to one of the simultaneous broadcasts from Peterborough FM or Resonance104.4fm at 4:30pm.
Temporary Local Broadcast is by Metal artist- in-residence Jack James. It begins with a series of recorded conversations in July and August 2014 exploring Peterborough and its position within contemporary England. The ‘tuning in event’ is a shared listening experience as part of Peterborough Arts Festival. Through the project, Jack invites you to hear a new sound piece made through and in response to conversations in Peterborough as part of a public listening, wider broadcast and CD release.
An FM radio installation broadcasting excerpts from conversations recorded as part of Temporary Local Broadcast will be at Chauffeurs Cottage, St Peter’s Road, Peterborough PE1 1YX, from 1 September to 3 October (Monday – Friday). An online version of the installation and a project archive is available at www.temporarylocalbroadcast.co.uk
Temporary Local Broadcast has been commissioned by Metal and is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
