One of Glasgow’s oldest streets and vibrant cultural areas, Trongate, will house new studios for around 230 students from Glasgow School of Art‘s School of Fine Art.
Work is underway to convert two floors of the Tontine East building, a former office block, into studio space in time for the start of the Autumn term on 18 September. The undergraduate Painting and Printmaking department, M.Litt in Fine Art Practice (Drawing and Painting), M.Litt Curatorial Practice (Contemporary Art), and MRes Creative Practices are all courses that have been displaced by the 23 May fire that devastated the historic Mackintosh Building.
Trongate has long been an artistic hub for Glasgow’s burgeoning art scene with longstanding art spaces Transmission Gallery, Photoworks and Glasgow Print Studio all based at neighbouring Trongate 103, an arts and creativity centre that also houses professional artists’ studios.
