create your own curious commodity with designer Timid Elk
The workshop demonstrates the process of constructing a 3D lampshade. The group will start by developing the base frame for the shade. Then a 3D covering, constructed from hand formed pyramids will be produced. These coverings will be unique to each individual and will be formed from a selection of papers including OS maps. The group will be shown the process of how to construct the pyramids, how to affix each one together to form the covering and finally how to attach this to the base frame produced earlier in the workshop. Every participant will leave the workshop having produced a unique lampshade, suitable for a table lamp stand.
Timid Elk is a Wakefield based designer/maker. Originally trained in ceramics but found more joy in creating the paper test pieces. As a result, she primarily works in paper and is currently exploring the theme of repetition in the curious commodities collection.
