A new partnership programme will enable artists to work in collaboration with museums on a series of ambitious projects across the UK.

New Expressions’ Field Visit programme offers the opportunity to see newly-commissioned artworks and to gain insights into their production, interpretation and installation, as revealed by the museums and artists involved. It is supported by Arts Council England, plus the National Trust and the Contemporary Visual Arts Network (CVAN).

So far there are three events planned in Plymouth, York and Warwickshire. First up is a session on collaborative working with artist Yelena Popova at Upton House and Gardens, near Banbury, on 18 June. This is followed by a session on creative risk taking with artist Keith Harrison at Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery on 22 July.

Finally, artist Philip Eglin will run a session on embedding contemporary artist commissions in the capital redevelopment of museums, at York Art Gallery on 14 September.

In addition, a consultation comprising a questionnaire for artists who have worked in museums and heritage settings – or would like to do so – is taking place. The aim is to find out whether there is a need to form a subject specialist network for museums, artists and communities. The deadline for completion is 18 June 2015.
