Sluice_ 2015, the London-based artist and curator-led art fair, launched yesterday with a busy press, VIP and public preview – and artist Marion Piper was on hand to capture events across the day, posting images on a-n’s Instagram feed.
Taking place at Bargehouse, Oxo Tower Wharf – a former industrial space among the contemporary developments on the South Bank of the Thames – the fair includes over 30 gallery presentations alongside performance and film, plus a talks programme with a focus on public art, contemporary art in historic settings and the rights of digital artists.
Speaking about the rich variety of artists and projects taking part in Sluice_, Piper, whose a-n Instagram ‘take over’ continues today, said: “I had the opportunity to talk with many of the exhibitors about the work.
“They are mostly either artists themselves or curators, all of them committed to the content of the work and the promotion and development of the artists they are showing… There’s a palpable atmosphere of experimentation in the projects and presentations on show.”
You can follow anartistinfo to see more images throughout the day. Here, we take a look at some of the images posted during Piper’s first day at the fair:
Saturation Point (top)
This online editorial project focuses on the work of UK-based ‘reductive, geometric and systems artists’, inviting them to contribute to the site. Its presentation for Sluice_2015, Clear Sight, includes works by artists Judith Duquemin, Hanz Hancock, Patrick Morrissey, Laurence Noga, Andy Parkinson and Charley Peters. www.saturationpoint.org.uk
Look&Listen (above)
Black & White is an ongoing project of Look&Listen, a gallery based in Saint-Chamas, France, aimed at creating a dialogue around monochrome works. For Sluice_2015 the gallery presents small wall-based works by 20 artists, all of whom feature in its recent Black & White publication. www.lookelisten.net
Ongilash
Composed by Luis Zubillaga and performed by the London College of Music Camerata in partnership with the English Chamber Orchestra Ensemble, Ongilash is part of a performance and film programme curated by artist Gordon Shrigley of Filmarmalade. The work was performed during the preview evening. Watch a short video of the piece here.
Ate Gallery
Faye Scott Farrington’s project, Ate Gallery, offers collectors the chance to acquire ‘sought-after historical art masterpieces’ for as little as £1 per 2oz bag. The tasteful display includes a selection of artist-appropriate sweets by modern masters such as Andy Warhol (banana chews), Gustav Klimt (liquorice allsorts) and Louise Bourgeois (jelly spiders). fayescottfarrington.com/Ate-Gallery
Sluice_2015, continues at Bargehouse Oxo Tower Wharf, London until 18 October 2015, 11am-6pm daily. Admission is free. sluice.info/2015
