David Ogle’s ephemeral outdoor works continue his longterm investigation into colour and light. Whether working with precise projections or dispersed smoke, his large-scale ‘environmental occurrences’ are devoid of a physical mass, conveying moments of fleeting fragility.

In Parallel
Interested in how people respond to places, Andrew Howe has developed this series of paintings, reliefs and an artist’s book in response to Shrewsbury’s rural-urban fringe – and the landscape and businesses that occupy it. Fittingly, the results will be exhibited in a previously derelict supermarket space that now forms the gallery, project spaces and studios of an artist-led Community Interest Company.

Practice Imperfect
Artist and a-n blogger Elena Thomas has organised this one-day conference for artist-educators to talk about the practicalities of making a living and making artwork. Talks, discussions and workshops explore strategies and methods for creating work beyond the studio. Writing on her blog, Thomas says ‘This event is about artists that do [art] in their school lunch times at their desks amongst the marking, on their laps in front of the tv with their children, on their laptops, on the train to work, and while they run…’

Notes from China
In 2014 Robert Priseman and Marco Cali co-curated (with Xing Zhang and Matthew Krishanu) and participated in an exhibition of contemporary drawing by UK-based artists at the Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts. During their stay in the capital of Shaanxi Province, a number of conversations, meetings and studio visits resulted in this exchange exhibition that presents works on paper by 17 artists from China that provides a snapshot of the social changes that they are living through.
