East Meets West 2.0, QUAD, Derby
This exhibition features 16 emerging artists working with moving image or photography who are based within the Midlands region. Exploring the theme of leisure, the diverse collection looks at topics ranging from drinking culture to community-led actions to save a local swimming baths. Artists include: Theo Ellison, Attilio Fiumarella, Emma Georgiou, Anne Giddings and Daniel Hayes, amongst others.

Painters’ Paintings: From Freud To Van Dyck, National Gallery, London
This show features works from the National Gallery Collection that were once owned by painters. Revealing the private acquisitions of heavyweights including Freud, Bellini, Matisse, Degas, Leighton, Watts, Lawrence, Reynolds and Van Dyck, the 80 works on show span over 500 years of history.

Rock Against Racism, Impressions Gallery, Bradford
The title of this show comes from a movement formed by musicians and political activists to fight racism through music that ran between 1976 and 1981. Activist Syd Shelton’s photographs capture numerous historic moments, including protests and demonstrations against racism in Lewisham, London’s Brick Lane, and Northern Ireland. The list of legendary performers also photographed include The Clash, Sham 69, Misty in Roots, Aswad, Pete Townshend of The Who, X Ray Spex, Elvis Costello, Tom Robinson, and The Specials.

Imran Qureshi, Newlyn Art Gallery, Newlyn, and The Exchange, Penzance
This split exhibition is taking place across three different sites, with the works on paper at Newlyn exploring the processes and devices of Muhgal Miniature painting. At The Exchange, Penzance, works on large canvases feature paint spilling across the walls and floors. Finally, Truro Cathedral features an artwork made up of 30,000 sheets of paper, each printed with photographs of a vast floor painting Qureshi created in front of the Aga Khan Museum of Islamic Art in Toronto.

Adam McEwen, The Modern Institute (Osborne Street), Glasgow
The central work in this show by New York based artist Adam McEwen is Tinnitus, a steel banding sculpture that splices the gallery space from left to right with menacing precision. Also featured are several large-scale photographic images printed on sponge and punctuated by rough iron piping, as well as a car airbag cast in iron. With its coldly accurate execution, this small collection of works creates a tense stand off between white cube space and industrial materials.
