Jennifer Scott, the director of the Holburne Museum in Bath, has been appointed director of the Dulwich Picture Gallery in south London. She is the first woman to take up the role.
Scott will start her new job in April, replacing Ian Dejardin who will become chief executive of the McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Ontario.
She leaves her role as the director of the Holburne Museum after just two years. Previously she was curator of paintings at the Royal Collection Trust, where she was responsible for curating exhibitions and project management of loans to museums and galleries worldwide.
Scott said of her move: “I am immensely proud to have been part of the history of this exceptional museum, particularly in leading our 100 Years Here celebrations throughout 2015. I feel I am leaving the Holburne in a position of great strength for the future. I now look forward with excitement to my new role at Dulwich Picture Gallery.”
Evelyn Welch, board chair, added: “Scott’s passion for the gallery is clear and her achievements at the Holburne Museum and at the Royal Collection are an excellent foundation for joining Dulwich. We look forward to welcoming her on board as we look towards the gallery’s future ambitions.”
Dulwich Picture Gallery was founded in 1811 and claims to be the world’s first purpose-built public art gallery. Next year sees the opening of the gallery’s first pavilion building in June, as well as a series of displays celebrating 200 years since the gallery first opened its doors to the public.
