Wishful Thinking
Tracey Payne’s ‘I nflatable entities’ expand and collapse on a cyclical basis. The colourful installation in the window of the artist-run …blip art space, aims to impart a slapstick antidote to the perceived permanence and unshiftability of the structures around which we live our lives. Like breathing in and out, Payne offers us a monolith that rises and falls.

Beth Richards: Ancient Scent
A work-in-progress talk from Standpoint Futures resident artist Beth Richards who has been researching the life and works of the surrealist artist, writer and occultist Ithell Colquhoun. Richards’ ongoing investigation in contemporary mythmaking has seen her create works that use absurdism and failure as a tactic for reconsidering the way that famous male characters such as Harry Houdini, Francis Drake and Arnold Schwarzenegger are portrayed in history and popular culture. Her humorous re-performances include takes on the teenage trend of ‘tombstoning’, scouting and the Western.

Concealed
Artists from the Art Textiles Made in Britain group explore ideas around concealment in this touring selling exhibition. Drawing with her sewing machine, Rosie James considers how the line is created through machine stitching. She creates portraits of people, on their own, or blending into the crowd. The patterns and facades found in architecture are the basis and inspiration for Pauline Barnes’ contemporary art quilts and wall panels, while Cas Holmes combines salvaged HMaterials to create mixed-media works that suggest and portray overlooked or in-between spaces such as roadsides and the edges of fields.

Codes of Faith
For the second year running, Laura I. Gallery curates ‘Codes of Faith’, a seasonal exhibition that brings together works by artists from all faiths and none. The show features works by over 30 artists who examine or convey ideas around faith and religion.
