Viewing Machine

Preview Friday 11 May 6 – 8pm
Open 12 – 19 May 11am – 5pm daily

Viewing Machine is an immersive moving image installation developed site-specifically for this exhibition at Glasgow Project Room. Utilising stop motion animation, live motion and flash frame techniques reminiscent of early experimental film, the work explores our current relationship with technology and the causal effect it can have on our experiences of and interactions within real time and space. Through abstraction, animation and the flattened surface of projection, Viewing Machine investigates the smoothing out of space produced on digital screens.

Rachel Hendry is a visual artist based in Glasgow working across animation, printmaking, and installation. Her work plays with the boundaries between real and imagined space in a cinematic way and reimagines our connection to the real world as we edge closer to virtual realities. Since graduating from Glasgow School of Art she has screened and exhibited work across Scotland most recently at The Lighthouse, Glasgow, Hidden Door Festival, Edinburgh and The Fruitmarket Gallery as part of Edinburgh Artists’ Moving Image Festival.
