Listen to artists Hermione Allsopp, Emily Glass, Florence Mytum and Nicole Mollett speak about their work on show as part of the current exhibition. Material Instincts is a group show which brings together ten artists who deal unusual materials and instinctual processes. This all women artist exhibition was curated to mark the 100 years of suffrage and to question patriarchal cliche surrounding artists who are mothers (see quote below).
The talk is organised by the Sevenoaks Visual Arts Forum and is free for first-time visitors. Please join us for drink and discussion after the talk.

‘Sculpture is the most anthropological of the art forms’

‘There is no more sombre enemy of good art than the pram in the hall. ‘
Cyril Connolly
‘At the end of the twentieth century motherhood has lost much of its Victorian prestige. No longer sacred or superhuman, mothers are more likely to figure in our cultural imagination a women buffeted by competing demands of public and private spheres, engaging in a difficult balancing act with less than complete success. It would seem that if one of the preoccupations of the nineteenth century was the construction of iconic maternity, one of the preoccupations of the twentieth century has been its destruction.’
