Figurehead
Nicola Dale’s solo exhibition documents research undertaken in Rome and funded by The British Council and Arts Council England into the iconography of St Jerome, the patron saint of libraries. With a practice that is conceptually rooted, Dale uses performance and sculpture to explore the many processes of knowledge-making, and to investigate practices of reading. A culminating performance will take place on the final day of this gallery-focused exhibition, which also interacts with the new specialist arts library at Leeds Arts University’s Blenheim Walk campus.

Have You Seen My Childhood?
A solo exhibition by artist and curator Melodi Shoja, ‘Have You Seen My Childhood?’ focuses on the trauma suffered by children who grow up within war zones surrounded by major international conflict. The show explores the psychological and physical impact such environments have on young people, encompassing both historical and global contexts for viewers to consider many viewpoints. For the exhibition Shoja draws on personal experiences of growing up in conflict zones during the Iran-Iraq war.

The Society of the Spectacle
Tere Chad’s solo exhibition ‘The Society of the Spectacle’ takes a look at how touchscreen technology can disconnect us from reality and how a ‘like’ on social media can mean more than spending time with friends. Through a series of paintings and etchings, Chad considers how, whilst the digital society can empower spectacle, there is a need to re-connect with the tactility of the real world. The work also reflects on the idea, developed by the Situationists in 1960s Paris, that representation has become more and more dissociated from reality to the point where the spectacle becomes more real than reality itself.

Artcoop is a ‘flexible and supportive’ group of established and emerging practitioners based in Surrey and further afield, whose work ranges from illustration, photography, printmaking and sculpture.
