The Custody Code sheds light on the contemporary working forest and our intimate relationship to timber and the unseen labour behind it. The project follows the life cycle of forestry from seed; nursery; planting; harvest and on to the sawmill, creating a story that takes the viewer on a poetic journey through the scale and complexity of timber production, told from the point of view of people who work in the industry.
The Custody Code can be seen set within a specially designed timber structure at Alice Holt Forest. The structure is made from sustainably sourced timber and the intimate two-screen film installation is solar powered.
