A powerful collaboration between explosives artist Aoife van linden Tol and composer Jaydev Mistry.

This site specific work, performed for one night only. Jaydev’s composition will be interwoven with explosions at close quarters by Aoife in an intimate and dangerous yet spectacular audio-visual experience.

Jaydev’s composition is constructed around the latent frequencies that exist within Ovalhouse as well as recordings of Aoife’s explosions within the theatres and is inspired by the theatre’s radical history.

The event is part of the demolition party season which not only celebrates the end of an era as the Ovalhouse theatre prepares to close its current location in Kennington this winter ahead of its relocation to brixton in 2021. Artists presenting this season have been invited to destroy parts of the building as part of their show and Orchestra of Destruction is no exception.

Aoife van Linden Tol

Aoife van Linden Tol is a London based artist, working with explosives fusing her interests in nature, cosmology, Beginning in 2000 Aoife van Linden Tol's work with explosives fused her interests in nature, cosmology, chemistry and physics. A multi-disciplinary artist, as well as blowing things up, her practice spans sculpture, installation, drawing, photography, film and performance. She creates abstract works which often examine concepts of time, density and matter as well as deep human emotions and motivations. With a minimal aesthetic, a sense of balance and an appreciation for natural forms Aoife van Linden Tol's work is beautifully raw and dynamic. The explosive medium can result in devastatingly ravaged and torn pieces, such as with the Meta series of bombs on sheet copper and aluminium, which command a powerful visceral connection with the viewer. The work has thus evoked strong emotional responses from audiences where viewers have spontaneously shared intimate and sensitive histories with the artist. Yet her versatility and skill with the medium allows her to make surprisingly small, delicate, and even humorous works. With The One I Love series she asked the public to contribute photographs of someone they loved. X's were then exploded onto the photographs with tiny amounts of gunpowder thus 'blowing kisses' to loved ones. A joy of learning, constantly questioning mind and a keen analytical nature feed a scientific process of research, testing and making. Graduating from Central St Martins College of Art and Design in 2002, with a BA Hons in Art & Design, Aoife van Linden Tol has exhibited internationally including at the ICA, London, the San Francisco MOMA, USA and the NGBK Berlin. Aoife has recently worked with Imperial Collage, researching light spectra for a series in neon and was invited by Disney to design a limited edition Star Wars BB-8 robot. She was Artist In Residence at the European Space Agency and Ars Electronica Futurelab in 2017.
