Applications are now open for the Clore Visual Artist Fellowship 2021, which for the fourth year is supported by a-n The Artists Information Company as part of the 2021 Clore Fellowships supported by a range of funders.
Open to professional visual artists in the UK who are looking to develop as leaders in the cultural sector, the Fellowship is for artists working within fine art, applied art, live arts and moving image, sound and text-based practices, digital and animation, participatory, public and community arts.
The Clore Fellowship is a tailored programme of leadership development that aims to enrich and transform cultural practice and engagement through developing the individuals’ leadership capacity. The self-guided fellowship includes guest speakers, practical workshops, mentoring and coaching and also a secondment.
Previous recipients of the Clore Visual Artist Fellowship include Lucy Harvey (2018/19), co-director of Salford-based organisation Paradise Works, Nicola Naismith (2017/18), who is an artist based in Norwich, and Maurice Carlin (2016/17), Manchester-based artist, Director of Islington Mill and a-n Artists Council member,
Speaking to a-n last year, Harvey explained the impact of the fellowship: “It was an enormous confidence boost and it felt amazing to have the work I’ve been doing at Paradise Works recognised. An achievement here was to give myself permission to lead, although really this permission came from my peers and I’m really grateful for that.”
In her article ‘An A-Z of leadership learnings‘, Naismith says that the Fellowship “led to an overhaul of beliefs, values, activities, approaches to practice, modes of communication. This modernising is still oscillating, so there is an opportunity for real change, development and expansion”.
Carlin also described the Fellowship as “a life-changing experience” and “a rare and wonderful opportunity… to reflect on the choices and decisions I’ve made”.
Applicants will be notified as to whether they are shortlisted for an interview in November 2020.
Interviews will take place online (via Zoom) between Thursday 3rd October and Friday 11 December 2020.
