There’s something Jungian about the shadows in the work. Shadows is something Jung wrote extensively about that’s a big part of the subconscious. He wrote that the shadows are hidden parts rejected by the conscious out of social desirability.
I want the work to drag the viewer in and spit them out as a reflection on the other side of the work, so they see their own gaze that’s now disrupted by the image they’re seeing, hence the mirrors with the prints.
The first drawing on the blog post works better because the tentacles are coming towards the viewer, whereas in the second drawing, the tentacles are dismissive towards the fourth wall.
