Suitable for absolute beginners or people wanting to refresh their skills and gain confidence in their creativity. Drawing is vitally important as a visual language that helps us communicate ideas, transfer knowledge and express emotions. Practicing drawing has significant health benefits backed by research including utilising fine motor skills, improving memory and relieving stress. In this a series of 5 lessons by artist Kate Hammersley you will be able to learn how to use an easel and create a series of drawings from still life and nature in a studio.
- Tuesday 18 June 10am – 12.15pm Introduction to methods and materials, lines and ellipses
- Tuesday 25 June 10am – 12.15pm Tone, how to make an object look three dimensional
- Tuesday 2 July 10am – 12.15pm Introduction to Charcoal adding and subtracting
- Tueday 9 July 10am – 12.15pm Texture and mark making
- Tuesday 16 July 10am – 12.15pm Light and shade working on a toned surface.
You will be able to try a variety of drawing media from pencil, to charcoal and ink and given tips on how to continue and extend your drawing practice beyond the course.
Kate Hammersley BA MA PGCE is an artist who specialises in teaching drawing, she has taught drawing workshops at the Ashmolean Museum and the Royal Society of Sculptors London. In 2022 she founded Field Art Space a place supporting creativity in the landscape.
Kate is a lively and exciting person to work with. She teaches with great enthusiasm, kindness and calmness. Her projects always draw out something in you that you didn’t know you had! – A student
Suitable for: Adults aged 18+
You will need: HB, B, 2B, 4B and 6B pencil, apron or clothes you don’t mind getting messy! We’ll supply the rest.
