just…FOLK. Bob & Becky Mitchell combine a commercial practice from their base at Profile Gallery with their continuing documentary work. They have a deep-set interest in the industries, traditions and social structures that make the north-east unique. While they work very independently, for the first time they have created a body of work together and have combined very different styles within one project. The two photographers within this project explore the English folk scene; its traditions, peculiarities and at times eccentricities. They also delve deep within the folk roots and explore the important traditions and songs which are past on through generations. The writing of traditional folksongs was and is about documenting communities. This concept of documenting traditions and social groups parallels with the work these photographers create. The passing of song and dance down through generations is deep within our culture and this documentation highlights the importance of the survival of these traditions.
