The first phase of Echoes of Blackburn Meadows audio art-walk begins transmission on Friday 25th of September, across the landscapes surrounding the site of former power station in Sheffield. Spoken memories from former workers of the power station, along with the sounds of electrical production, will be broadcast from a hidden solar powered transmitter via an FM frequency. The Echoes team is to be holding a series of workshops for participants to build their own FM radio receivers with which to access the artwork. Workshops are being held at the Sheffield Showcase office, Pinstone Street, from 10am-12pm and 2pm-4pm on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th September. To book a place contact project co-ordinator Jennifer Rich on 0114 258 5885/ 07841 869882 or at [email protected]. The office will also be the location of a unique interactive audio window display. Passers-by are recommended to have their FM radio receivers at the ready to tune into samples of the artwork. Participant toolkits, which include a map, FM radio receiver and a pair of headphones, will be available for hire free-of-charge from Sheffield Central Library. Mobile phones with in-built radios can also tune in to the artwork. Admission to the workshops is free.Maps also available to download at www.sheffieldelectricity.com
