Kirsty E Smith makes sculptural works in response to an ongoing fascination with her surroundings. For “Close encounters of a Frillip Moolog kind” she has taken inspiration from vintage sci-fi films and used textiles and techniques more common to dance costumes and showbiz extravaganza. While shown in London it was very enthusiastically received and has been described as joyous and uplifting. Smith is proving her ability to make work which appeals to the child within us all while at the same time being deeply serious about her practice. Wonderment, intrigue, amusement and childlike delight are common responses to “Close encounters of a Frillip Moolog kind”.Smith received Arts Council funding to make this new body of work. There will be an Artist Talk on 29th October
